The RP500, the latest Broadcast console from the French company Rami, is equipped for digital broadcasting. It has inherited all the advanced technology of the RP2000 and Compact consoles, which are highly recognized today in the professional radio world, and in particular the VCA technology fitted to the rectilinear potentiometers to maintain impeccable sound quality.
It fills a market segment corresponding to user demand due to the reduced size, the numerous functionalities and the multiplicity of sources that can be connected to it, the direct USB input for the broadcast machine and the AES/EBU digital output.
Its rack format, 8U allows its integration in a bay or in a medium-sized studio.
The antenna output is available in both balanced XLR analogue and AES/EBU XLR digital. In a digital environment, the analog output can supply the antenna gauge.
A built-in USB sound card in/out option allows both direct streaming from and recording to a computer.
It has a second true balanced XLR output, for recording or a second program. This can be selected on each input channel and on the return of the telephone insert. It is thus possible to manage both an Antenna modulation start and a recording with a different modulation simultaneously.
The cabin control output allows either listening to the antenna program, or that of program 2 and each input channel in pre-listening. This output can be muted to the opening of the main microphone to avoid audio loops.
The double studio output for headphones can be switched either to the On-Air send for live, or to the PGM2 send for off-air recordings. The first exit for the main animator takes orders from the director, the second for guests does not take orders.
The RP500 is equipped with a specific channel for the technician director with its tone corrector, its departure towards the telephone insert and an ON/OFF button for quick opening. An illuminated ON AIR panel can be controlled through this input channel.
The microphone input channels can also control this ON AIR panel or possibly a second differentiated one in the case of a closed studio.
The input channels in line position allow machine start/stop remote control by switch or start of fader travel.
A MIDI start/stop option on USB makes it easy to control broadcast software with this function.
The specific section for the external telephone insert allows sending from each input, the corresponding return can be assigned, either on the antenna, or on the second output, or both at the same time.
The large scale of the IEC 268-10/1 standardized peakmeter, for pre-listening and the antenna output, is a real measurement tool making it possible to provide a calibrated audio signal. Digital saturation indicators complete the measurement.
