Focal is leading the way in affordable nearfield monitors by combining groundbreaking designs with technologies they first developed for high-end models such as their successful SM series. This Shape 65 is the 5" model in the Shape series, bringing premium quality Focal reference monitoring to your studio, editing suite, songwriting workstation, or any other application where your pace may be limited. but your need for precise monitoring is not t.A state-of-the-art flax sandwich cone, M-shaped inverted dome speaker, innovative acoustics and ideal electronics add up to a loudspeaker extremely linear and distortion-free, delivering clear midrange intelligibility and imaging.dual passive radiator design, you can comfortably place your Shape 65s close to walls, while enjoying extended bass that's still tight, controlled and accurate.
Raising the Bar of Glass Speaker Cones
Focal first introduced its fiberglass speaker cones in its SM series, where the extraordinary definition provided by their lightweight rigidity made them an instant hit among professional mixing engineers. The Sha pe series from Focal goes even further in the design of the speakers by introducing a layer of flax fiber, which is much more rigid and twice as light as fiberglass. They sandwiched this layer of linen between layers of fiberglass, resulting in a piston-like low-frequency action and increased damping. You'll be amazed at the low-frequency precision and mid-range clarity these speakers deliver. You couldn't ask for better compact nearfield monitors when it comes to critical mixing applications.
Revolutionary M-shaped inverted dome tweete
The Shape Series introduces another major design upgrade to Focal's near-field monitor technology by re-imagining their already impressive aluminum-magnesium dome tweeter. For starters, the M-shape itself provides increased stiffness, which provides many of the same benefits as the increased stiffness of their flax fiber cones: greater definition with lower distortion. The M-shaped dome works with its own dedicated TMD surround for impressive linear response below 6kHz. This horn also features a housing that provides equal horizontal and vertical directivity, and a less directional profile overall. Finally, the magnetic component, which features a Kapton mold in the voice coil, offers less high-frequency distortion than Focal had previously achieved in an affordable near-field monitor.
TMD surround ensures complete midrange neutrality
Beneath the elegant walnut veneer and meticulously calculated MDF enclosure, each Shape Series studio monitor features a number of technologies that give them unique linear frequency responses. One of them is TMD surround sound on either speaker. Curiously, this stabilizing element comes from special architecture found atop skyscrapers such as Taipei 101. These suspended harmonic absorbers promote a more piston-like action that targets specific frequencies. In the Shape Series, these surrounds produce a remarkably flat frequency response around 1kHz–2kHz, resulting in stunning neutrality with virtually no measurable distortion.
Dual passive radiators ensure low-end stability
One of the technologies that Focal popularized in its previous generation high-end monitors was the use of passive radiators. Just as they did in the SM Series, these passive radiators provide the Shape Series reference monitors with extended low-frequency response that goes far beyond what Sweetwater's seasoned studio engineers expect from fields near modest size.
By balancing low-frequency harmonics with the dual surround highlighted above, these passive radiators accomplish what ports simply can't, giving you low-frequency tuning that extends bass clarity and lets you position your monitors closer to walls, without compromising accuracy. This detail makes it an ideal choice for small studios and editing rooms.
Next generation amplification and electronics
It is impossible to overstate how important the amplifier is to the function of precision reference monitors such as Focal's Shape series, both in terms of pairing the appropriate electronics with the acoustic elements. and giving you the flexibility to tailor the sound to your control room. Regardless of other settings, Shape Series studio monitors deliver stable tonal balance at any volume, a key element in creating mixes that translate well outside the studio. At the same time, you can easily adjust your Shape studio monitors to your room, thanks to the adjustable shelving filters and 160Hz crossover slope. There's also an adjustable high-pass filter on board, allowing you to eliminate serious low frequency problems or to adapt to specific subwoofer configurations.
